Performances a) Cry My Zimbabwe Brief Synopsis:- ‘Cry My Zimbabwe’ is a Theatre piece about three characters, Zwelethu, Diliza and Tonderai. They tell of their decision to leave Zimbabwe their country of birth and try to start new lives in England. The play takes the audience to Yarlswood Detention Centre in England where they met while detained. They are caught in a net of racial and tribal conflict; they must wrestle with loss of identity and personal power. It is an epic account of how humanity can overcome adversity. The three accept tribal differences and move forward together. This is a high-energy play, funny, moving and truthful. It shows a determination to survive with dignity. The whole is held together by stunning music. After each and every show, a discussion with the audience is held to help the audience digest on issues raised in the Production. Running time: 1hour 5mins : Not suitable for Children under 12 Work-shopped by TUF Productions Directed by Peter Mutanda Wa-Ndebele b) The Twilight Rainbow -Brief Synopsis- This is a celebratory explosion of HOME! It’s an antidote to the pain of separation. It is a pulsing, laughing, bittersweet tour of memories shared by the inimitable T.U.F cast, a multi-skilled crew of Zimbabwean refugees and asylum seekers now living in Britain. They came with nothing but their culture in their blood. Nevertheless like a tour guide, the cast takes the audiences through an African scenario, in the rural villages where villagers are working in the fields, young girls fetching firewood and water, boys herding livestock and men working in industrial sites in towns, farming and mining areas. Music and Dance always play an important role to spice up life in Africa and most importantly help people to drown their sorrows. The musicians sing the sweet melodies, the Djembe drums mimicking these distinctive sweet harmonies of rural life and the gumboot stomping percussive sound of industry. The hands of the knowledgeable drummers and the stomping of skilful dancers produce a universal language that can be translated like poetry by the audiences. Shakers, xylophone, whistles and cow bells are an important ingredient of this production. Running time: 85mins (inc. interval) Choreographed by Tongesai Gumbo and TUF Productions Directed By Peter Mutanda Wa-Ndebele 2.
